I am from New Mexico.
I am mostly hispanic (my relatives would like to believe we're of Spanish/Basque descent, but I'm not so sure), and part Apache.
Highlights from my childhood were: becoming a born again christian and speaking in tongues (now I don't believe in religion), going to Italy as an exchange student, losing my virginity in my boyfriend's sister's bed (she was 8 and it was a water bed, that was the highlight, not the boy or the sex), going to DC as an intern on the hill, riding bikes and getting the hell out of NM.
Then I got a scholarship and a lot of financial aid and went to fancy private college to which I am forever and ever indebted. I majored in geology and fell in love with getting dirty and rocks.
Then I moved to Rhode Island and worked in fundraising at Brown University.
Then I moved to Woods Hole (on the Cape) and tried to be a geologist.
I gave up and went to be a Park Ranger in Yellowstone instead. I backpacked and partied, a lot. I loved my roommate. She showed me Ani and I never looked back.
Then I took a road trip with someone I no longer talk to. I tried to find myself, but didn't. My favorite stop was Arches National Park.
After that, my brother offered me free rent, so I took it. I moved to LA, went on a blind date with a fish, got a consulting job and then moved up north.
I got married in 2001. I married the fish, but I may refer to him as D. We lived and died the dot.com dream, but it was a hell of a ride and we made some wonderful friends.
I love San Francisco, but am craving change and NYC is calling my name. The fish is from NYC, and he doesn't really want to go back. We're working on that.
We used to live in San Franciso and now we live in Marin. I love Marin even more and I don't ever want to move to NYC unless I can live on Park Ave and have a personal driver.
Last year, the stork brought us Luna, aka Luna girl. She was born at 9:32PM on March 15, 2007. The first month was hell. Then it all fell into place. I never thought I could love anything this much. She literally takes my breath away.
I have the most wonderful friends in San Fran. If I left, I'd want them to come with me. I love my gym. I love to cook and entertain. I am a Latina Martha Stewart and my friends call me, "Marta." I have a huge heart and a small ego. I have way more energy than you could possibly imagine. I love dogs, but relate to cats. I am not a cuddler, unless I am drunk. I like to drink wine. And yes, even though I am mom, I still drink wine.
